Plasma Transferred Arc

Cladding, or weld hard-facing, is a procedure that is complementary to thermal spray coating.

Surcotec specialises in applying this technology through using a digitally controlled Plasma Transferred Arc system.

Plasma Transferred Arc welding is a hard-facing process that melts a filler material in powder form with the surface of a component to produce metallurgically bonded overlays.

Surecotec's Plasma Transferred Arc overlays provide customers with options to apply a material that resists erosive, corrosive, abrasive or mechanical wear to a wide range of substrate materials of varying geometries.

The advantages of Plasma Transfrerred Arc as a hard-facing method over conventional weld hard-facing technologies are that Plasma Transferred Arc overlays are characterised by low levels of inclusions, oxides and discontinuities, and the overlay closely mimics the metallurgical properties of the base material.

The careful control of heat input makes it possible to control weld dilution to less than 10%, which is critical for many high-performance alloys and applications.
